Using version 4.35 of wwipstuff calling sendemail, seems to be having issues with user names longer then 22 or 23 characters. Is this a limit? If it is a limitation would upgrading to the current version 5 remedy the situation?

Thanks
Scott

Can't comment on such a limit but can tell you, one of the first projects I ever did was handling some very large mailing lists on WC version 2.x and never had problems with cut off usernames that I'm aware of. <g>

Having said that, upgrading is always a good thing especially when asking for help. Most support is based on the current version and 4.x code is (guessing) five plus years out of date.

I would take a look at the usernames in your list. Is it possible that some of the names have invalid characters included?

The VFP limit of 254 characters for a string field is the only limit I'm aware of. This would include the username@domain.com in determining the length. The username by itself would not be an issue!

If you have access to create an email account for testing, I would suggest you create an account with an email address that is say 25 characters and try sending to it. (Unless you have already done this.) That would confirm the problem is something in WC and not your list.

Thanks for the reply Harvery. I can send an email from an account that is 20 characters but not one from an account that is 25 total characters since there is no access to the source for the dll I figured I would ask. I don't think I can sell my boss on "lets upgrade, it should work" that is why I was hoping for some confirmation. Can't find any information about a limit, can't imagine that I am the first person to run into this so I figured I MUST be doing something wrong.

Thanks again

Scott,

You can download the shareware versions of our latest stuff always so there's no need to buy to try. Version 4.x is well over 10 years old - i'd say you got your money's worth out of that $129 (or $99) investment i'd say :-) Keeping up with versions of software you use regularily is a good idea precisely for reasons like this - network habits and security routines changes over the years and there have been lots of updates and changes since version 4.

I just double checked the code and the actual length of username and passwords (and most other non-memo-style values are 256 character in the latest version of wwipstuff.dll for SMTP mail.

We defiantly have, I know I waited to long to update just was afraid of the ripple effect when updating components. Will download the demo and give it a try, thanks for the reply and checking the current code base Rick.
