I've found that there can be problems with permissions if accounts are changed. Specifically if somebody changes the IUSR account in Windows it automatically disconnects from the IIS configuration causing all sorts of craziness. THe only way to fix this is to remove the IUSR account and add it back in.

THe other common mistake people make is to use domain accounts for Web security - this works only if you explicitly specify the domain to validate against in IIS. It's best for performance though to use local accounts on the Web Server rather than rely on domains security.

Hi

I believe I found the problem. The permissions for the IUSR_ account were not set correctly on several folders. I fixed that and a few corrupted permissions and everything is working as it should.

I've found that you can't always count on Windows to apply its own groups correctly. Rather than relying on Administrator's group rights, try explicitly giving the dCServer account permissions to the necessary folders.

Hi

I currently have a server that has a web-connect application on it as well as Remote Desktop Users accessing a VFP application on the same server. I want to limit the Remote desktop users to their own folder when saving files. If I removes the Users Group from the security tab on the drive it works as expected and the Remote Users can only save data into folders that I have specifically enabled. However when the web connect application needs to read a file from one of the folders on the drive a Windows Logon dialog box is displayed in the Web Browser which I do not want. I created a special user called dCServer which is part of the Administrators group and used it as the User to run under for the web connect application which I thought would be enough since the Administrators group has rights to the entire drive but I still get this Windows Logon dialog. Can anyone explain what is wrong with my setup and how it should be configured?

Thanks,
Simon
