VS 2005 SP1 Beta - no relief for me

So I installed the Visual Studio 2005 SP1 Beta in hopes that some of the issues I’ve reported (here and here and here) on Vista RC1 but this seems to have made little difference.

I still see Visual Studio crashing on exit. Intellisense is still hosed in any Web projects and I have to go into visual design mode before it works on controls on a Web form). I also noticed today that in a C++ project Intellisense wasn’t work at all. The editor just displayed an error message on the status bar saying it couldn’t find Intellisense information.

The only thing that seems to have fixed is Web Application Projects which now properly sees my custom controls in the designer again, which was failing before.I also notice that some of the menu and context menu shortcuts that have been missing in WAP are now there like View in Browser from a page and View Code from the HTML or Visual designer. Little morsels are nice <s>…

So, I’m still not clear if it’s just me who’s having these problems under Vista RC1. I’ve seen this on two separate machines now with 3 different installations so I doubt this a hardware related issues, but then I haven’t anybody back up the problems either.

I'm not sure I got all the problems you got but I sure do have the "crash on exit" thing with my VS2005 installation under Vista RC1.

Hi Rick,

Can you send me an email detailing your system setup again (and specifically any desktop search or anti-virus software you have installed).

We've seen one other person report the intellisense not appearing, but haven't heard of it more broadly.

The VS crashing on exit is a known issue and will be fixed with the servicing release we are planning once Vista ships (since we expect a few other last-minute Vista specific servicing fixes to be needed).

Steve, luckily most of the issues I've run into are annoyances with the exception of the Intellisense issue which is a big problem for productivity.

Scott, thanks for the 'nudge'. It turns out SlickRun is the culprit for the Intellisense issues. Once I turn it off (or specifically the 'Chase Cursor' option) the problem goes away.

Updating to Vista RC1 build 5728 fixed the intellisense issue and the on exit crash for me. The only thing i'm experiencing now is with the sourcesafe 2005 integration (updating pending checkins takes ages and text is hidden when comparing versions)

Visual Studio 2005 seems to have lost its ability to show control definitions in ASPX pages for me since I installed VS on Vista Beta 2. Otherwise this environment seems to work well, but this is quite an annoying kink.

The biggest thing I hit was the inability to run any of the built-in VS2k5 unit testing. Whever I try to run tests, I get a target of invocation method failed error.

I am very dissapointed in VS2005 for large projects. I tried switching from VS2003 3 times and keep hoping they will improve the performance to not take the daily hit on the development side. I understand that .NET2 has about 10-15% improvement in performance... but the IDE takes that away in my development time... thus not practical yet. My typical solutions are 12+ projects and if they have ASP.NET projects in them... it crushes me.

I wish they had an option to turn off the background compiler at times or not render the usercontrols. I am fine with the little gray rect's everywhere - just give me back my quick IDE.

I still have major issues with Intellisense not working properly for the ASP.NET CodeBehind pages until I switch into Design view and then back to code view. This now after a full OS and VS.NET 2005 reinstall, so now I'm ruling out odd configuration issues...

Not wishing to further darken the mood re: this whole issue, but I'm experiencing most of these issues with VS2005/XP/WAP AND hacks like switching into Design view and back simply aren't "fixing" Intellisense either. Hoping against hope for a quick end to these issues.
