Anybody ever notice that if you're running ActiveSync (4.1) on your machine that your harddrive is constantly churning? My Dell has a new 7200 rpm SATA drive in it and this drive is fairly noisy in that you hear every disk access rather clearly.
With ActiveSync installed more than once a second the harddrive works – constantly. After digging out FileMon and looking at what's happening I found that RAPIMgr – the Remote Access server to a mobile device – hits the disk almost continuously.
Talk about lame – you'd think those guys could have come up with some better notification scheme than to check for disk files to detect connection attempts. Apparently connecting a Windows Mobile device causes the USB driver to write out a file to disk.
Anybody know if there's a way to slow down these connection attempts to once in a few seconds instead of continuously? This may sound pedestrian but the constant rhythm that the check incurs is really hypnotic.
Can't I get a little peace and quiet around here? <g>
