I'm making one more pit stop at PADNUG next Tuesday (October 2nd) before heading back to Hawaii later in October. The topic will be using LINQ to SQL in a Business Layer. Here's the topic abstract:

LINQ to SQL in a Business Layer
LINQ to SQL is one of Microsoft’s new OR mapping tools that aims to bring a more object oriented mechanism to accessing data. This talk introduces LINQ to SQL and some of its features and shows how it works and what you can do with it . The focus of this discussion is on using LINQ to SQL in the middle tier for proper data abstraction which requires some additional considerations to be made beyond the ‘quick demo’ usually shown for LINQ to SQL. I’ll share my impressions and thoughts as well as the beginnings of a small light weight business framework built around LINQ to SQL that simplifies data access, provides a few additional required DAL operations and facilitates the process of creating an abstracted data layer.

As you may have noticed I've been hammering away at LINQ to SQL mainly for my session later this year at ASP.NET Connections on the same topic. For the user group session I'll do a little more general talk that provides more background for LINQ to SQL since it's likely many folks haven't seen it before.

If you're in the Portland Area stop on by. If you haven't come to a PADNUG meeting before you don't know what you're missing. There's been lots of good topics and turnout is quite good with lots of networking and fun discussions before and after the meeting in a casual atmosphere.

Notice that this meeting is at an other than usual day of the week (it's Tuesday not Wednesday) and a different part of the month than usual. According to Rich the scheduling of meetings will be rearranged due room availability at the Microsoft office.

BTW, I forgot to mention - last month's presentation by Tom Howe on The Business of Software was a thouroughly enjoyable one and if you have a chance to catch Tom do this session I'd highly recommend checking it out. It's entertaining and full of some simple advice that we often forget. Since I've been in business for myself for most of my career I was amazed by how many points I often 'just gloss over' while listening to his session. Highly recommended...

Anyway, I hope to see 'ya there...
