Done! I'm finally done with travelling for the next few months after cruising around the world (literally) over the last month or so.
OzFox was a fun event in Sydney. A Fox conference, but there was a fair amount of interest in the various .Net sessions rather than the outright skepticism that often happens at Fox conferences and .NET setssions. The venue of this location was amazing - right on the beach in Coogee with beach after beach only a few miles away if you wanted to walk a little.
Craig and Talman also did an awesome job with this event for organization, prizes and making sure everything was working well. This was a very well organized event and while it was a small conference it felt more like an extended user group meeting with tons of interaction between attendees and speakers. The XBox room and the beer on a couple of those nights mighta helped, but that's another story ... as sad as that sounds the XBox room (sponsored by Microsoft and valiantly lugged in by Andrew Coates who now works for Microsoft but last year as an independent ran OzFox) was the social hangout after the conference and between car wrecks and wrecked Halo bodies there were all sorts of interesting discussions happening...
Having a single track actually works out well for an event like this where even a smaller number of attendees will fill a good size room. Something to remember for some of the other smaller conferences which often have so many tracks that rooms are well underattended which makes it much less attractive for speakers to go. I for one like a room full of people <g>, I'm sure other speakers will concur.
One interesting thing I noted during this conference was that there was a large contingent of younger developers in attendance. With the age of developers in general and VFP in particular (and my own - I had a birthday while in Coogee) going up, it's refreshing to see a younger crowd in attendance.
Kudos for Craig for putting on this event and I want to thank Craig for treating the speakers so well! We were shuttled around and generally treated like royalty which was uh, nice <g>.
So, now I'm back home for a while. Time for some R&R and also some more time to work on finishing up a few pending product updates (Help Builder in particular waiting for VFP 9 to ship) and getting down to writing a few articles I've been meaning to finish up. As much as travelling is fun, the last few months have been hectic beyond belief shuttling around and getting ready for conferences. I'm looking forward to a little bit more laid back time.
That reminds me, it's windy and there are waves and I shouldn't be sitting here typing this entry...
Aloha!
