MS AJAX 1.0 is here

Microsoft has finally release MS AJAX 1.0 to RTM so it's now finally an official part of the Microsoft product line. V 1.0 is a mixed bag of cool stuff and stuff that's left for the next release which makes the core 1.0 product a little lackluster in terms of functionality. This functionality is made up by the MS AJAX Control Toolkit and less so the Futures CTP which is Microsoft's continuing and evolving platform on the way to the next version of .NET and Visual Studio.

An update to the ClientScriptProxy Class for ScriptManager/ClientScript

Here's an update to the ClientScriptProxy class I posted a month ago for the release version of MS Ajax. The class acts as a front end proxy object to the ScriptManager and Page.ClientScript detecting whether MS Ajax is registered or not and making the appropriate calls to the right object.

I've moved my samples from MS Ajax Beta to the RC and the process was pretty straight forward. A few small hiccups due to naming changes from Microsoft, but overall fairly straight forward. Hopefully there won't be any more breaking changes before release.

ScriptManager and Resource Compression

The MS Ajax ScriptManager can automatically compress script files when using RegisterClientScriptResource. Unfortunately it only works when a script manager instance sits on a form even though the ScriptManager method is static.

I went through the chore of converting my ATLAS samples to Beta 1 today and it was a very painful experience. This realease seem terribly buggy and there a number of things that are simply not working.

So Microsoft now has released Beta 1 of the ASP.NET Ajax Extensions. As expected this update pretty much fries all existing ATLAS code as there are major changes in the framework. There are many improvements for the base framework and the client framework, but the whole theme of this fragmentation of these tools really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
