Media Player and ‘Actual Size’

WinForms and BindingSource control binding issues

Nothing's ever easy as it should be. I wanted to give the new DataBinding in WinForms 2.0 a spin, but I'm having no luck binding even the simplest of objects to my controls.

I'm not too happy with the way HTML errors display in VS2005 in Web projects. Html Errors in my book are not errors, but warnings and being flagged as errors gets in the way big time...

Tabbed or MDI Interface in Visual Studio 2005?

VS ships with Tabbed mode enabled by default but I've found in some situations MDI window mode for the development environment can be real nice to take advantage of multiple monitors and keep multiple windows open in context.

Funky margins in EditBoxes and various other .NET WinForm controls are still with us in .NET 2.0. Bummer especially after I reported this long while back.

Why is JavaScript so lame?

JavaScript is a pain in the ass to work with. One has to wonder, why isn't JavaScript boosted up or why isn't there something more adequate to the task of client side development in the works? Between JavaScript and inconsistent browser object models an incredible amount of time is wasted by developers costing boat loads in lost time and money.

Interop Assemblies aren't Auto-Refreshing in VS2005

Looks like VS 2005 no longer automatically refreshes COM references in ASP.NET projects. You have to physically drop the interop assembly and add it back.

I spent a little more time with ATLAS today reviewing the Web Service Bridge interface and also playing around with Scripting model. The initial release of ATLAS is pretty rough and there are a number of show stopper problems.

When working with Mobile controls in ASP.NET it's often hard to tell what the controls are actually generating for a specific device. Here's a routine I use all the time to capture output to disk for review.

Retrieving a CodeElement reliably in VS.NET 2005

There are a few changes in the way VS.NET 2005 retrieves CodeElements from the source code editor that require more code. That's progress for you . On the other hand this approach is probably more reliable and provides better control over the process than the generic mechanism VS.NET used previously to return the current CodeElement.

Not so fast - I was saying that my VS2005 Release install went very smooth. That is until I tried to open an existing SmartPhone project. Turns out that my Device setup is completely hosed in Visual Studio.
