I thought this was pretty funny:
http://www.sharkshield.com/
Interesting when you dig through the site there's not a heck of a lot of information on how the thing works. All I see is a big old anchor you have to drag with you and I'm thinking "false sense of security" here <g>… You'd never know if the thing gave out in the middle of a session. You figure if this really worked somebody would have put up buoys by now with a wider field of operation.
Speaking of sharks, I was out windsurfing the other day and kept repeatedly running into a shark on the inside reef. It was a small 5 foot Tiger shark. Almost ran him over once – ok, I admit that made me freak a bit. Ramming a shark and falling in is probably not the best of ideas… Eeek.
Of course, this company is from Australia. Their shark population is a bit larger than what we have here in Hawaii and they are of the more nasty kind(great whites).
Sharks are rare, but I suppose every once in a while somebody's gotta get mauled to keep the crowds at bay, he he… nothing like natural selection. It's all fun and games until somebody looses a leg.
