I’m still shopping around for a new high end laptop and I was stopping by the Alienware site last night when I got this fun little page:

You think they don’t have an error handler hooked up to their Application_Error or what here? I wonder if you run out of memory if ASP.NET automatically goes to this error page. A little hard to test that one I guess <g>. I noticed in a few other places that they did manage to get a more generic site themed error page to display.
Also, isn’t IIS 6 supposed to capture process and heap memory errors and recycle the worker process automatically? This error didn’t go away at least for a half an hour that I tried to get in and sat here writing up this entry.
Funny I didn’t notice the ASP.NET site while browsing around there a while back.
Still trying to find a good high end laptop. I’ve been torn between the Alienware 5700 box and a Sager 5720-V. Both machines use pretty much the same motherboard and have similar configurations.
It ends up being about $500 more than I ended up paying for the damn Dell in similar configurations (2 ghz, 2gig, – 80 gig SATA 7200rpm drive). With Alienware I’m worried about mixed reports on quality and support. With Sager there are a couple of small issues with the touchpad and the sound that worry me.
The focus of these machines are for gamers, which I don’t use my PCs for anyway. So it’s a bit hard to tell from reviews of how well these machines stack for development and every day usage purposes. It also be nice to be able to consistently run Sonar DAW on the laptop, which my old Dell can do only with small songs and recording no more than 2 tracks at once.
I just want a really fast box so I can run VS.NET 2005 comfortably with 1900x1200 resolution and decent enough video so it’s ready for Vista next year.
