Media Player 10 is driving me crazy. I posted some screen CAM, CamTasia videos a little while back and they just won’t play right in Media Player 10 (the files are here). MP 10 doesn’t show them sharply and blurs the image – they’re still viewable, but still not right.
If I open the raw AVI files up in MP 10, they too are blurry, while I can open these up in any other AVI capable viewer and they look just fine. Media Player 9.0 (and older versions) from a straight XP 2 install works just fine and it displays both the WMV and the AVI files properly.
Now that’s progress for you – you get worse quality in the newer version <g>.
So the question is what is different in 9.0 and 10.0? Different Codecs or is MP 10 simply not sizing the image properly which is what it actually looks like. Is there any other way to configure MP 10? I asked a question in my forums the other day and a couple of people mentioned that they do see good, sharp results in MP 10.
So now I’m looking at other options. I can turn out those videos with Flash SWF files into an HTML page which looks perfect. But file size is nearly twice as big (although it’s also higher quality video) and you can’t easily download the SWF files to play offline, which a lot of people are doing. Short of offering a separate ZIP file with the html container and the config files you can’t just right click and say Save As…
