That's a scary topic isn't it?

Well, got my Amex bill today and realized once again I'm still paying for my CompuServe account monthly because I might, might need dial up when in a bind to get online. Phones are everywhere while Internet connections are a bit more spotty especially internationally. This used to be a common situation, but it's becoming less and less of an issue and paying $10 a month seems ridiculous for the 5 time a year I'd be using this service.

But, at the same time dialup can be OK if you just quickly need to get your email anywhere in the world or at an airport where you have a 10 minute layover and can't find a free access point (yeah, right the mythical FREE access point <g>). This is really why I still have CS for all this time. In addition, i've been a in a few places around the world where - gasp - the family I stayed with did not have high speed access of any sort and in those places access is pretty pricey so you don't want to eat up their phone lines. Again, it's rare but it happens and I sure am glad that I have dialup in those situations.

Anybody know of a good pay as you go dial up service that's global yet is on a pay per use basis only and doesn't require clumsy software to connect? Oh yeah and it has to be reasonably priced and definitely no monthly fees.
