I've noticed that over the last few months that there've been some odd referer links on a bunch of my applications. Referers get tracked here on the BLOG and in various other places so I can occasionally scan what sites people are arriving from when they come to the West Wind Site.

Recently there have been a lot of junk sites showing up in these logs - links that obviously are not backlinking to my site at all. In fact, a number of sites I've tried to follow back have been pulled 'off the air' by the time I got to them.

I think this means that somebody is running crawlers to post bogus referral links, probably in hope that we'll look at these links and follow them back to check out the latest in designer drugs...

Again, I'm amazed at the deviousness that goes into this sort of thing. I mean, who sits down and thinks this shit up and worse thinks this is going to produce some sort of a result. Referer links are non-public (at least here) so the audience this caters to is ONE at best.

Is there something I'm missing with this silliness?
