Browser wars? Maybe not, but...
September 21, 2004 @ 12:43 pm

Browsers matter and the sad state of affairs today means that you probably need more than one browser to surf the Web. But IE is definitely on the losing end of the stick for security, features and standards compliance. But browsers will continue to be important, rich client apps non-withstanding.

Red Gate's SqlCompare/SqlDataCompare saves my day
September 17, 2004 @ 9:43 am

I wiped out my dev Database this morning and realized that there were some recent changes that didn't make it to a backup. Luckily I had another staging server that received the changes already. Within a few minutes iwth SqlCompare and SqlDataCompare I had my database right back were it was supposed to be.

XMLComments, and large component documentation
September 16, 2004 @ 9:19 pm

Html Help Builder and Html Help 2.0 support
September 11, 2004 @ 3:55 pm

Over the last couple of days I updated Help Builder to support generation of HTML Help 2.0 output. Html Help 2.0 is a PITA and designed in such a way to be even less user friendly than the already screwy HTML 1.0 format. Yes there are some nice features in the format itself, but it amazes me how Microsoft could have made a process such as installing help as complex as this.

IIS6 and Compressing of Web Content
September 08, 2004 @ 12:27 pm

IIS 6 makes using compressed content fairly straightforward which can result in large bandwidth and download speed savings. Using compressed content in browsers is automatic, but with dynamic HTTP clients a bit more work is required.

Too much is too much. I had enough for today. Some days are like that where every piece of code you work with has something wrong with it and needs fixing.
